GADIM LIFE

Project Objectives

1. Improve food security and access to nutritious food for refugees and vulnerable host communities.

2. Strengthen sustainable and climate-resilient livelihood opportunities for vulnerable households.

3. Improve practical agricultural, vocational, entrepreneurial, and income-generating skills among refugees, youth, and women.

4. Support household and community-based food production through climate-smart agriculture, home gardening, and sustainable farming practices.

5. Promote entrepreneurship, small businesses, savings, and income-generating activities that strengthen economic self-reliance.

6. Improve access to livelihood inputs, markets, financial literacy, business development support, and employment opportunities.

7. Strengthen household resilience and reduce dependency through inclusive, community-led and environmentally sustainable livelihood approaches.

Key Activities

1. Provide climate-smart agriculture and sustainable food production training for refugees and vulnerable host communities.

2. Support household and community gardens, small-scale farming, and environmentally sustainable agricultural practices.

3. Provide seeds, basic agricultural inputs, tools, and technical support to vulnerable households and community groups, subject to available  resources.

4. Deliver vocational and practical skills training linked to local market opportunities and sustainable livelihoods.

5. Provide entrepreneurship, business development, financial literacy, savings, and basic business management training.

6. Support refugee-, women-, and youth-led micro and small enterprises and income-generating activities.

7. Facilitate linkages to markets, employment opportunities, financial services, cooperatives, and relevant livelihood service providers.

8. Promote community-based savings groups and other appropriate mechanisms that strengthen household economic resilience.

9. Conduct food security, nutrition, post-harvest management, and sustainable livelihood awareness activities.

10. Strengthen partnerships with local authorities, humanitarian and development actors, private-sector partners, training institutions, and community-based organizations.

Target Groups

1. Refugees, asylum seekers, and vulnerable host-community households.

2. Food-insecure and economically vulnerable households.

3. Refugee and host-community women and youth.

4. Female-headed households and other households with specific vulnerabilities.

5. Persons with disabilities and their households.

6. Smallholder farmers and individuals interested in sustainable agriculture and food production.

7. Refugee entrepreneurs, start-ups, and micro and small business owners.

8. Unemployed and underemployed youth seeking vocational, entrepreneurial, and livelihood opportunities.

9. Community-based groups, savings groups, cooperatives, and refugee-led initiatives.

Expected Results

1. Improved access to adequate and nutritious food among refugee and vulnerable host-community households.

2. Increased household food production through sustainable and climate-smart agricultural practices.

3. Refugees, women, and youth gain practical vocational, entrepreneurial, agricultural, and financial literacy skills.

4. Increased establishment and sustainability of refugee- and community-led micro and small enterprises and income-generating activities.

5. Improved access to markets, employment opportunities, livelihood services, and appropriate financial mechanisms.

6. Increased household income, economic self-reliance, and resilience to economic and climate-related shocks.

7. Strengthened participation of women, youth, persons with disabilities, and other vulnerable groups in sustainable livelihood opportunities.

8. Stronger partnerships and community-based mechanisms supporting long-term food security and sustainable livelihoods.

Geographic Focus

1. Kampala and the Greater Kampala Metropolitan Area, with a focus on vulnerable refugee and host-community households requiring food security and livelihood support.

2. Refugee settlements and surrounding host communities across Uganda, particularly areas experiencing food insecurity, limited livelihood opportunities, and economic vulnerability.

3. Northern Uganda and other refugee-hosting areas where climate-smart agriculture, sustainable food production, vocational skills, and income-generating activities can strengthen household resilience and self-reliance.

4. The program may expand to additional locations based on food security and livelihood assessments, community priorities, market opportunities, climate and environmental considerations, available resources, partnerships, and operational capacity.
