Women & Youth Empowerment
Empowering women and youth through leadership, vocational and digital skills, entrepreneurship, protection, and meaningful community participation, enabling them to build sustainable livelihoods and become active agents of positive change.
Project Objectives
1. Empower women and youth with
leadership, vocational, digital, and life skills that enhance confidence,
employability, and self-reliance.
2. Strengthen women- and youth-led
entrepreneurship through business development, financial literacy, mentorship,
and access to livelihood opportunities.
3. Promote protection, gender equality,
safeguarding, and awareness of rights, with particular attention to women and
young people facing heightened risks.
4. Increase meaningful participation of women
and youth in community leadership, decision-making, peacebuilding, and local
development processes.
5. Improve access to education, vocational
training, digital skills, employment pathways, and other opportunities that
support sustainable futures.
6. Strengthen partnerships with refugee-led organizations, women- and youth-led initiatives, training institutions, private-sector actors, and relevant authorities to advance inclusive empowerment.
Key Activities
1. Provide vocational, digital,
entrepreneurship, leadership, and life-skills training for women and youth.
2. Organize business development, financial
literacy, mentorship, and entrepreneurship programs supporting women- and
youth-led enterprises.
3. Facilitate employment readiness, career
guidance, internships, apprenticeships, and linkages to livelihood and
employment opportunities.
4. Conduct protection, gender equality,
safeguarding, GBV prevention, and rights-awareness sessions for women, girls,
youth, and communities.
5. Establish and strengthen safe, inclusive
spaces for women and youth to access information, training, peer support, and
referral services.
6. Support women and youth participation in
community dialogue, leadership, peacebuilding, advocacy, and local
decision-making processes.
7. Strengthen women- and youth-led groups and
refugee-led initiatives through capacity building, networking, mentorship, and
institutional support.
8. Build partnerships with training institutions, humanitarian organizations, private-sector actors, community structures, and relevant authorities to expand opportunities for women and youth.
Target Groups
1. Women and girls from refugee and
vulnerable host communities, particularly those facing economic, social, and
protection barriers.
2. Refugee and host-community youth seeking
vocational, digital, entrepreneurship, leadership, and employment
opportunities.
3. Women and youth survivors or persons at risk
of GBV, exploitation, discrimination, abuse, and other protection concerns.
4. Young women, adolescent girls, and youth
requiring safe spaces, life skills, mentorship, and meaningful participation
opportunities.
5. Women and youth with disabilities requiring
inclusive and accessible empowerment opportunities.
6. Women- and youth-led organizations,
refugee-led organizations, community groups, and emerging entrepreneurs
requiring capacity-building and institutional support.
7. Unemployed and underemployed women and
youth seeking sustainable livelihoods, entrepreneurship, apprenticeships, and
pathways to employment.
Expected Results
1. Increased access of women and youth
to vocational, digital, entrepreneurship, leadership, and life-skills
development opportunities.
2. Improved employability, economic
self-reliance, and livelihood opportunities for refugee and vulnerable
host-community women and youth.
3. Increased establishment and growth of women-
and youth-led enterprises and income-generating initiatives.
4. Enhanced knowledge of rights, gender
equality, safeguarding, GBV prevention, and available protection and referral
services.
5. Increased meaningful participation of women
and youth in community leadership, decision-making, peacebuilding, and
development processes.
6. Improved access to safe and inclusive spaces,
mentorship, peer support, training, and referral pathways for vulnerable women
and youth.
7. Strengthened capacity of women- and
youth-led groups, refugee-led organizations, and community structures to design
and implement locally led initiatives.
8. Stronger partnerships and referral networks
connecting women and youth with training institutions, employers, humanitarian
actors, private-sector partners, and relevant authorities.
Geographic Focus
1. Kampala and the Greater Kampala Metropolitan Area, with a focus on refugee-hosting urban communities and vulnerable women and youth.
2. Refugee settlements and host communities across Uganda, based on identified empowerment, protection, livelihood, education, and skills-development needs.
3. Northern Uganda and other areas hosting vulnerable refugee populations, subject to program priorities, partnerships, needs assessments, available resources, and operational capacity.
4. The program may be expanded to additional locations based on community needs, protection assessments, accessibility, available resources, and coordination with relevant authorities, humanitarian actors, training institutions, and community-based organizations.
